According to a study conducted by Travelclick, a company dedicated to hotel reservations, GDS and travel agencies in the United States have been progressively losing their market share with the entry into operation of hotel websites.
According to the report presented by this consultancy, in the last year the hotel distribution is being monopolized, more and more, by the same hotels; in such a way that, in the first quarter of 2011, reservations through the website of the brand or the hotel group represented 24.3% and now, so far in 2012, they represent 31.1%.
Contrasting with these figures, online hotel reservation systems or GDS, have gone from 21.4% to 16.6% in the same period of time. Similarly, online travel agencies (OTAs) have fallen in this period from 10.1% to 7.8% in what has to do with lodging reservation.
On the other hand, during 2011 the average daily rate (ADR) increased in all channels by a measure of 3.8%. However, ADR figures grew in online agencies by 9.8%, a percentage higher than that of hotel websites, where it was 3.5%.
